  4. Been talking to a few folx and wondering if anyone's up for a mini-gathering? Im thinking super chill, small group, low key, no pressure, just to meet up and hang out, share some info about weed! I'm thinking like... Self-care Sunday? or a high happy hour monday? @River Katz has offered to come and do portraits if we do, since they couldn't make it to the Oz event. Would most likely take place somewhere laid back in NE/SE portland. What do you think?

I am SO excited for this! I've recently started planning a career change into the mental health field and desire to push for normalization and study of cannabis and other psychoactives as treatment aids in my eventual practice. I'm also a long time medicinal user of cannabis, fully believe in the grounding/restorative properties of psilocybin, and enjoy every opportunity I can get to educate myself on plant-based healing properties in general. I'm really looking forward to what each speaker will bring!

  15. Call To Action! For great people who are looking for good industrial farming experience, to help us plant 250 acres of hemp. Dates: June 15- 20 2019 (UPDATED!). It is a 4 day planting session. Location: Burns, Oregon. Its is 2.5 hrs east of Bend, and 2.5 hrs west of Boise ID. Pay: $20 per hour. We are looking to identify 5 more people to help plant seedlings. We will need your commitment for 3 nights and 4 days. An 8-hour planting shift is required each day, with an option for 1-2 additional hours helping with the logistics of each days planting. We are planting with a 7 seat/row transplanter behind a tractor, so this is not manual hand-planting 250 acres. That being said, a person has to have the ability, comfort and stamina to sit and place plants from a tray into a planter wheel, with short intervals every 15-20 minutes, to get down off the seat for some movement and reload trays. This is a 1000 acre farm, and our family lives in a trailer in the middle. We will have food catered in twice a day and place to sit and relax. We have room to tent here on the farm. We will have showers available and porta-potties available. Burns is a small town so there are few hotels in town, and they are inexpensive. We are working this farm with a few Mennonite families, and the high desert is very beautiful. We are only 10 minutes from Crane Hot Springs, and its only $10 to soak! The lack of research combined with decades of misleading propaganda has put moms in the most difficult position of deciding if cannabis is safe for them and their families. Mothers are uncertain as to whether cannabis use is OK during pregnancy and breastfeeding and we often feel shame or hide our use. We say NO MORE SHAME! Let's open up conversations to break down the stigmas! Tokeativity Canna Mamas aims to open up deep conversation and connection between women interested in cannabis and parenthood. It is time to get together to connect, learn and create a community of Canna Mamas who can learn, discuss and support one another to set some standards for how cannabis can be used as a parent. All women are welcome who are interested in this conversation - you do not need to be a mother to attend! RESERVE YOUR SPOT NOW!

The purpose of this course is to discuss the widely accepted vernacular, Indica and Sativa, and uncover the scientific truth behind these terms. With the foundational knowledge of Cannabis botany, morphology and taxonomy, students must learn what the terms Indica and Sativa actually refer to. This will require many to question definitions of Indica and Sativa that are so popularly adopted and widely used. An Interactive Q & A with Emma be available at the end of the class. ABOUT THE TEACHER Emma Chasen has a mission to educate people on the science behind Cannabis so that they may take charge of their own healing. After graduating from Brown University in 2014 with a degree in Medicinal Plant Research, Emma went on to coordinate Clinical Oncology trials with the Brown University Oncology Research Group. When her supervisor refused a Cannabis trial in favor of another expensive pharmaceutical drug, Emma quit and headed across the country to Portland, OR. She found her way to Farma, the popular Portland dispensary that takes a more scientific approach to Cannabis; rejecting the Indica/Sativa binary and instead focusing on chemotypes to determine effect. She began her career at Farma as a budtender and was quickly promoted to General Manager after only a few months. She oversaw the operations of the shop and continued to uphold the pillars of esteemed customer service and cannabis science education during the rocky regulatory transition from OHA to OLCC governance. After over a year as Farma’s General Manager she stepped down and carved out a role for herself as Director of Education. In this role she was able to focus on educational efforts and create a robust training curriculum that focused on cannabis science, product knowledge and empathetic patient care. After over two years with Farma, Emma left to join forces with Sativa Science Club to expand her curriculum into a certification program for the cannabis community at large. She launched the Core Science Certification program both online and in the community in Portland in the fall of 2017 with Sativa Science Club. Emma is now a cannabis industry consultant and helps brands develop educational marketing collateral and educational programs to further elevate their brand presence in a competitive industry. She also helps struggling cannabis businesses with business organization and sets them up for success in the competitive adult use market. Emma continues to seek ways to spread cannabis education through consulting, writing, speaking and teaching. Emma Chasen was recently named Portland’s Best Budtender of 2016 and featured in Newsweek, MG Magazine, Stoner Magazine, High Times Magazine, The Oregon Leaf and Teen Vogue for her work with Cannabis and patients. She is also a regular guest on many cannabis focused podcasts and has been featured on television for her ability to explain scientific concepts around cannabis in a way that is accessible and helpful to the general public. Her mission is to educate people on the science behind Cannabis so that they may take charge of their own healing as well as to address the need for training and education of budtenders, medical professionals, and the general public.

  25. Monica Lo, chef, photographer & creator of cannabis food blog Sousweed Did you know that 3 out of 4 women in the U.S. have access to legal cannabis? Yet buying weed can still be intimidating. In case you don’t have a friend you can bring with you to a dispensary, Monica Lo is the California based chef, photographer & creator of cannabis food blog Sousweed, shares her story to help you feel more comfortable. Transcript below. LISTEN ON APPLE PODCASTS | STITCHER | OVERCAST | POCKET CASTS | SPOTIFY | iHEART LINKS Monica Lo of Sousweed CREDITS Host: Ellen Lee Scanlon Producer: Nick Patri Brand manager: Madi Fair TRANSCRIPT FOR DO THE POT EPISODE 100 Ellen Lee Scanlon (00:00): This podcast discusses cannabis and is intended for audiences 21 and over. Ellen Lee Scanlon (00:07): Welcome to How to Do the Pot, a podcast demystifying cannabis for women. I'm Ellen Scanlon. On these short episodes, we share women's stories about the first time they bought legal weed. I hope they bring a little fun and a new perspective into your week. In honor of National Dessert Day, which is today, we partnered with Monica Lo, a California based chef and creator of the food blog, Sous Weed, to bring you some delicious honey shortbread cookies made with cannabis infused sous weed honey to go with your bedtime tea. You can see it all on Instagram @dothepot and @sousweed. That's S-O-U-S-W-E-E-D. And stay tuned for How to Do the Pot's upcoming episodes about cannabis and sleep, and how these yummy cookies maybe just what you need for a better night's rest. Monica Lo (00:59): The first time I bought legal weed was with my California Medical Cannabis card that I had gotten when I had my back injury. My roommate and I, at the time, went to stock up on all the goods at our local neighborhood dispensary, just to try a bunch of things for pain management. We went inside. The interior of the shop was done up like the cigar lounge, and it had really nice warm tones, and woods, and leather, so it felt cozy, and not sketchy, at all. There was this epic menu with different flowers and edibles. And, to be honest, I felt it was a little intimidating, especially the first time being in a dispensary. I didn't know what I was reading. But this was back in the day, where it was okay to ask for the jars, and you could open it up and smell all the different strains. I remember I really enjoyed doing that, and I learned a lot that way too. Monica Lo (02:00): I wound up taking home a bag of trim to use in my sous weed experiments, because it was much cheaper to use trim than purchasing all the premium flour. I also bought some chocolates and macaroons to try out, as well. I remember when I was checking out, they dropped in some free brownies into my bag. I don't think it's allowed these days, but I remember taking them home and trying them, and they were so gross, and so stale. Yeah, that was nasty. Homemade, for sure, definitely is where it's at. Ellen Lee Scanlon (02:43): Thanks for listening to this episode of How to Do the Pot. If you'd like to share your story about the first time you bought legal weed, please send a voice memo to hi@dothepot.com, or DM us @dothepot. 26. A former U.S. attorney general says that the country is “clearly on the path to decriminalizing marijuana” at the federal level as more states continue to advance reform. Eric Holder, who served as the nation’s top law enforcement official under President Barack Obama, spoke on a drug policy panel hosted by Ohio State University’s Moritz College of Law on Thursday. He said he felt encouraged that the U.S. is trending toward more lenient laws on drugs that treat addiction as a public health matter, and he also argued that federal cannabis reform is increasingly inevitable. The war on drugs has cost people their livelihood and taxpayer dollars, Holder said, and society is starting to move in a different direction. “Now with regard to decriminalization, we are clearly on the path to decriminalizing marijuana,” he said. “You know it’s going to happen. We are on a glide path now.” He added, however, that he felt conflicted by efforts to decriminalize other currently illicit substances like heroin and cocaine. A first-of-its-kind congressional bill to broadly end the criminalization of all drugs was introduced this session. “I have a difficult time trying to think about the decriminalization of other drugs,” Holder said, “given the fact that you see the negative impact that the use of these drugs has on people individually and then, individuals banding together, a negative impact on
society at large.” That said, the former attorney general argued that penalties for drug-related offenses could be “substantially lower,” judges should have more discretion to deal with drug cases on an individual basis and mandatory minimum sentences for these types of crimes “should largely be done away with.” Holder has received credit from advocates for deprioritizing federal marijuana enforcement under the Obama administration, with the Justice Department issuing the so-called Cole memo in 2013 that generally discouraged federal prosecutors from going after people for acting in compliance with state-legal cannabis laws. However, activists have also pointed out that, despite suggesting that marijuana should be federally rescheduled shortly after leaving office, he declined to initiate the process to enact that policy change while he had the power to do so. Drug policy is “all about the politics,” Holder said on Thursday. Lawmakers seeking reelection are generally disinclined to embrace broad reform because they don’t “want to be seen or labeled as being soft on crime.” While Holder wasn’t pressed at the event on why he decided against advancing reform beyond the Cole memo, which was rescinded by President Donald Trump’s first attorney general Jeff Sessions, it’s possible that the kind of political dynamics he described were at play. Beyond telling PBS in 2015 that he felt cannabis should be rescheduled, he said three years later that, “I’ve never seen any scientific evidence that points you to concerns about addiction through the use of marijuana.” “We need to move marijuana from Schedule I so research can be done,” he said. “It is classified now on the same level as heroin is, and clearly that is inappropriate.” A focus of Thursday’s conversation, which was moderated by Ohio State University’s Douglas Berman, was racial inequities in drug enforcement. Holder—along with activist Piper Kerman, Ohio Supreme Court Chief Justice Maureen O’Connor and U.S. District Chief Judge Algenon Marbley all agreed that the disparities highlighted the need for reform. Marbley, for his part, also said that the “feds need to align themselves with the states with respect to marijuana laws.” “I think that the trend throughout the nation is that many, if not most, states allow medicinal marijuana, and those states that don’t yet have recreational marijuana are trending that way—and they have significantly decriminalized marijuana,” he said. “I think that it’s time for the feds to get on board.” President Joe Biden helped craft many of the punitive drugs laws that advocates are now working to reform, but he has evolved to embrace letting states set their own marijuana policies, decriminalizing at the federal level and rescheduling cannabis. He remains opposed to adult-use legalization, however. Congressional lawmakers have recently stepped up a push to get Biden to grant clemency to nearly 20,000 people in the federal prison system—including those with drug convictions. The Biden administration is already asking a fraction of people with drug convictions who were placed on home confinement amid the coronavirus pandemic to apply for the relief. But nearly 30 members of Congress signed a letter to the president last month urging him to take additional steps for a broader pool of people. Meanwhile, members of the House Judiciary Committee approved a bill last week to federally legalize marijuana. This comes as Senate leadership continues to finalize their version of a comprehensive reform bill. Also, the full House recently voted in favor of a defense spending bill that includes an amendment that would protect banks that service state-legal cannabis businesses from being penalized by federal regulators. 27. Introducing Miss Grass Minis. Personal-sized pre-rolled joints for every occasion—Fast Times, Quiet Times, All Times. A mixtape of cannabinoids and terpenes to make you feel *just* right. The very first cannabis product created completely with you in mind. About a year ago we had a big thought: What if we made a weed product? Something we’d really want to consume; something that truly honored what we love about the full spectrum of our favorite plant—and all those who love it back. We knew we couldn’t do it without you. And, more importantly, we wouldn’t want to. After all, you’re our very favorite weed-loving buds on the planet. You’ve been here on the high road with us since Day 1, lighting the way with love and bud the entire time. So we asked. And here’s what you said was at the top of your list: Pre-rolled joints. Small in size and easy to smoke. Super smooth. Different formulations for different moods. Sustainably grown. Cool packaging. Not too pricey. We heard you loud and clear. So, we researched a ton. Experimented a bunch. Developed for months. Examined every bud. Tried every terpene. Tested every strain. Measured every cannabinoid. Monitored all possible effects. And, of course, smoked a whole lot. (Hard job, we know.) Now our stash is finally ready for you to smoke. And to be honest, we couldn’t be more stoked. Miss Grass Minis. Perfectly yummy. Perfectly smoke-able. Perfectly yours. Find your time. Fast Times Make friends. Make art. Make out. For you and a nude beach. Or you and a regular beach, if that’s more your thing. Fast Times is an inspiring flower blend meant for opening your spirit, getting things done, and moving along. It’s vibrant without jitters; high-flying without losing sight of the ground. The kind of energetic buzz that goes well with daytime dancing, al fresco painting, all night talking, or just doing you—and, maybe doing someone else, too. Quiet Times Turn up the music. Turn down the bed. Turn inside. For you and a bubble bath. Or you and a film. Or you and your journal with a pen in your hand. Quiet Times is a calming flower blend that works well with dim lighting, chocolate, and a really great tune. Or a lazy Sunday with your love in your room. Relaxed but not sluggish; dreamy but not spaced-out. Like a soft cashmere sweater or the silkiest sheets—soothing, weightless, and super serene. All Times Get centered. Get clear. Go wherever you want. For you and whatever. All Times is a 1:1 CBD:THC flower blend with a balanced, easy-going high. A versatile bud that goes with the flow and is up for anything—kind of like your fav black T-shirt or your forever plus-one. Energetic without being frenzied; chill without being a dud… with just enough sparkle to make everything more fun. The post Miss Grass Minis Are Here appeared first on Miss Grass. My vision board has been the center of my altar, where I meditate, pray, and read tarot. It really helped me focus my intentions throughout the year. I actually didn’t realize how many things I actually have accomplished or gotten into motion this year that I had put on my board last January." - Aphrena Rushton, Portland, OR "The Vision Board I created with Tokeativity served as both a mental and physical reminder to keep pushing for my ideals and goals throughout the year. It not only helped me to reassess and set goals in a meaningful and creative way, but allowed me to self-evaluate where I was with both personal and professional goals and helped create intentional conversation with other women whom (which I may have not done otherwise). After creating the board and hanging it in my room, I was able to refer to it throughout the year and draw both inspiration and motivation from it when needed. This is one of my favorite workshops that Tokeativity does all year!" - Leah Maurer, Co-Owner of The Weed Blog, Portland OR
