TRANSCRIPT FOR DO THE POT EPISODE 91

Ellen Lee Scanlon (00:00):

This podcast discusses cannabis and is intended for audiences 21 and over. Welcome back to How to Do the Pot, a podcast de-mystifying cannabis for women. I'm Ellen Scanlon. On these short episodes, we share women's stories about the first time they bought legal weed. I hope they bring a little fun and a new perspective into your week. Tekisha Harvey is a Florida based co-founder of CannaCurious Mag, a women's platform created to showcase the many ways cannabis can enhance a woman's lifestyle.

Tekisha Harvey (00:35):

In was 2016, and I was visiting Seattle Washington for the first time with a friend of mine who'd flown in from New York. While sight seeing and experiencing all the local sites I thought, we would be remiss if we did not try out the legal cannabis market. So while we were out and about, we just Googled if there was a nearby dispensary. And so we found one and we decided to try it. Now, keep in mind up until this point, I had never tried an edible. I had actually never even smoked weed. In college, lots of people did it, but I never liked smoking. Come to find out later I was doing it wrong, which is a whole other story, but I digress.

Tekisha Harvey (01:13):

So once we find this dispensary, we go to go inside and I didn't know the whole process. And I was surprised and put on edge by the large burly security guard at the door checking IDs before allowing us to go in. And so once we're inside, we're greeted by this cheery young woman with tattoos and a nose ring. And she was welcoming us in and asking, what we were looking for? Myself being clueless, I just deferred to my friend who said she was looking for some pre-rolls. And since I didn't smoke, I said, "Maybe point me in the direction of edibles". What I ended up getting was a chocolate brownie and a dark chocolate bar. Each were a hundred milligrams. At the time, that meant nothing to me. And I think I paid like $16 for each of them. So I didn't know if that was a good price, a bad price.

Tekisha Harvey (02:00):

And so after we leave, I crack open the chocolate bar and I ate about a third of it. Rookie mistake. Because that's probably about 33 milligrams and I had never done cannabis up until that point. So I had no idea what the impact was going to be. So we ended up going to a bar afterwards, got a drink. And we spent about an hour there and I still felt nothing. So decided to go get dessert at another place. And in the Uber on the way to the dessert place, I'd said, "You know what, let me try some more". So I ate like another third of the chocolate bar. And if you're keeping up, that's probably 60 milligrams at this point.

Tekisha Harvey (02:34):

So we get to the dessert place, order some hot chocolate and some dessert, and then boom, it hit me. I just felt this wave of sedentariness, if that's a word, came over me and I just felt like I couldn't move. And I was having all these thoughts and I was wondering, can people hear what I'm thinking? Am I saying these things out loud? Or am I keeping them to myself? And so I just ended up just drinking a lot of water thinking similar to alcohol that would help sober me up. Of course, it did not. So we ended up just getting back into an Uber and going back to the hotel and I promptly fell asleep. And I think I had probably the best night of sleep in my life. And next morning, woke up refreshed.
