TRANSCRIPT FOR DO THE POT EPISODE 92

Ellen Lee Scanlon (00:00):

This podcast discusses cannabis and is intended for audiences 21 and over. Welcome back to How To Do the Pot, a podcast de-mystifying cannabis for women. I'm Ellen Scanlon. On these short episodes, we share women's stories about the first time they bought legal weed. I hope they bring a little fun and a new perspective into your week. Justine Warnick is the Illinois-based cohost of the Chillinois podcast.

Justine Warnick (00:32):

My first time buying legal weed was actually out in Denver, Colorado, and it was probably about 2017, and I had just gotten hired at a medical dispensary, but did not have my medical card here in Illinois. So I took a little trip out to Colorado, and I remember just being very excited and very nervous. The dispensary that we went to, I was able to get in right away, so that was pretty cool. I didn't even know what questions to ask, so I think I just asked if I could smell everything and I wasn't super well-versed with concentrates, but I knew that I wanted to experiment a little bit with them and buy stuff to make edibles, even though I had never done that before. It was just a whole world of discovery and the bud tender that I had was super nice. She did not mind that I wanted to smell every product, even though I had no idea at that point what kind of turpines I was smelling for or what good weed actually looks like. I just knew that I wanted it to be sparkly and green. I probably smelled every strain that they had on the shelf, and of course, I only went with top shelf because, it's your first time. Why not?

Justine Warnick (02:02):

Honestly, I think what I ended up getting was a strain called Recon OG, and of course I bought a whole ounce of it because why not? It's your first time and you can, so I definitely did and I still have the container from that because it was such a crazy moment. There was so much adrenaline, you would think that I was about to run a marathon or some huge life event was happening to me, which honestly it did turn out to be kind of a huge life event because now I am in the world of cannabis, it is a part of everything that I do, and it was definitely worth the 15 hour drive to buy an ounce of probably mids, honestly. I don't think it really qualified as top shelf, but I loved it. I smoked it all. I was so excited. I bought my first vape cartridge while I was out there and started trying that out right away and was very impressed.

Justine Warnick (03:07):

I wish that more brands would make fruity flavored cartridges, even though I know that there are some negative health effects that people are finding now with those, but it was great. 10 out of 10 would absolutely do it again. Always go back to that same dispensary in Denver, every time I go, it's called The Stone. They have excellent prices and I love the people that work there. They're always super helpful and friendly. My advice would be definitely do your research, don't just buy whatever's sparkly and green because there's so much more to it than that.
