DESCRIPTION:\n\n	Join us LIVE with Emma Chasen for a 3 part online semi
nar where we'll learn about Cannabis Botany\, Cannabinoids &amp\; Decarbo
	xylation &amp\; Terpenes. \n\n\n\n	\n\n\n	 \n\n\n\n	You'll get to interac
t live with Emma in these 3 online classes:\n\n\n\n	Cannabis Botany - 45
min + 15 min Q &amp\; A with Emma\n\n	 Learn to place the cannabis plant
within the broader context of the plant kingdom. Students will gain a bas
ic understanding of the core principles of botany and taxonomy before movi
ng on to explore the major taxonomic differences and traits specific to Ca
	nnabis. \n\n\n\n	15 min break\n\n\n\n	Cannabinoids &amp\; Decarboxylation
	 - 45 min + 15 min Q &amp\; A with Emma \n\n	Get an introduction to the
most common class of compounds in Cannabis\, the cannabinoids. Students w
ill learn how cannabinoids are made and what their properties are. We will
also define and explore the process of decarboxylation. This course will
allow students to gain a basic understanding of cannabinoids and how we co
	nsume them. \n\n\n\n	15 min break\n\n\n\n	Terpenes - 45 min + 15 min Q &
amp\; A with Emma\n\n	Learn to define\, identify and explore the class of
compounds known as terpenes. Using the foundational knowledge of chemotyp
e and cannabinoids from prior learning modules\, we will dive deeper into
why certain strains of Cannabis produce different experiences. We will dis
cuss and interact with the most common terpenes found in Cannabis and each
of their specific properties. The information presented in this module wi
ll allow students to be able to analyze chemotypic data in subsequent lear
	ning modules.\n\n\n\n	Date: July 24\nTime: 6-9pm pacific\nWhere: Tokeativi

EMMA CHASEN\n\n\n\n	\n\n\n	Emma Chasen has a mission to educate people o
n the science behind Cannabis so that they may take charge of their own he
aling. After graduating from Brown University in 2014 with a degree in Med
icinal Plant Research\, Emma went on to coordinate Clinical Oncology trial
s with the Brown University Oncology Research Group. When her supervisor r
efused a Cannabis trial in favor of another expensive pharmaceutical drug\
, Emma quit and headed across the country to Portland\, OR. She found her
way to Farma\, the popular Portland dispensary that takes a more scientifi
c approach to Cannabis\; rejecting the Indica/Sativa binary and instead fo
cusing on chemotypes to determine effect.\n\n\n\n	She began her career at
Farma as a budtender and was quickly promoted to General Manager after onl
y a few months. She oversaw the operations of the shop and continued to up
hold the pillars of esteemed customer service and cannabis science educati
on during the rocky regulatory transition from OHA to OLCC governance. Aft
er over a year as Farma’s General Manager she stepped down and carved ou
t a role for herself as Director of Education. In this role she was able t
o focus on educational efforts and create a robust training curriculum tha
t focused on cannabis science\, product knowledge and empathetic patient c
are.\n\n\n\n	After over two years with Farma\, Emma left to join forces wi
th Sativa Science Club to expand her curriculum into a certification progr
am for the cannabis community at large. She launched the Core Science Cert
ification program both online and in the community in Portland in the fall
of 2017 with Sativa Science Club. Emma is now a cannabis industry consult
ant and helps brands develop educational marketing collateral and educatio
nal programs to further elevate their brand presence in a competitive indu
stry. She also helps struggling cannabis businesses with business organiza
tion and sets them up for success in the competitive adult use market. Emm
a continues to seek ways to spread cannabis education through consulting\,
writing\, speaking and teaching. \n\n\n	Emma Chasen was recently named P
ortland’s Best Budtender of 2016 and featured in Newsweek\, MG Magazine\
, Stoner Magazine\, High Times Magazine\, The Oregon Leaf and Teen Vogue f
or her work with Cannabis and patients. She is also a regular guest on man
y cannabis focused podcasts and has been featured on television for her ab
ility to explain scientific concepts around cannabis in a way that is acce
ssible and helpful to the general public. Her mission is to educate people
on the science behind Cannabis so that they may take charge of their own
healing as well as to address the need for training and education of budte
	nders\, medical professionals\, and the general public.\n\n
